I decided to create a short film that included everything I have seen in short films through my research, but was also capable of doing and a reachable goal. Therefore I chose to make a film that was not so over the top as I have seen many other films to be, but very much similar to real life to fit into the genre of social realism.
My very first initial idea for my film was to have a long confrontation between two people. I wrote about many different scenarios however none of them seemed to fuel the whole film for the whole 5 minutes. I then had a meeting with my teacher and I finally settled on the theme of a love story as this is very common within the genre, and most genre's for that fact, and many people can relate to love, which will hopefully please my audience.
I then focused my attention on this theme and chose my setting to be a school as this is the best place to shoot, and where many kids spend most of their time and form relationships as they are away from their parents. I chose to do a different love story from the ones shown in universal cinemas all the time. I settled on a very complicated love triangle between three diverse characters. After adding various elements and building the characters profiles I developed my idea until I had a final draft for the synopsis.
Draft 1
Two girls can be heard over many other voices. One girl asks the other if she has any free lessons today. The girl answers but says that she has to stay after school for an hour to catch up on some work she has missed.
A boy is outside standing beside a school building on the phone. When the answer phone comes on he asks if his mum can pick him up at 4.15 instead of 3.15 as something has come up and he has got some work to do. The girl who answered is walking from building to building in the school. The boy carefully follows her making sure he is unseen. She eventually reaches an empty classroom and enters. The boy waits outside for 30 seconds, peers through the window in the door and enters. He looks surprised to see her, and she believes him. He makes an excuse that he has to do some work in that classroom also and sits near her.
As the girl tries to concentrate on her work, the boy keeps trying to distract her with conversations. It soon becomes apparent to the girl of the boys motive in the situation. She says she is going to the toilet. The boy watches her intently as she leaves the classroom with a smirk on his face. As she leaves he catches a glimpse of her bag on a chair next to the one she was sitting on. He double checks no one is watching him, and quickly moves over towards it and begins to look through it inquisitively. He pulls out various steriotypical handbag items until he suddenly pauses, looking deep and hard into the remaining contents in the bag. His face floods with panik and confusion and he ever so slowly takes his hands out of the bag. Leaving the contents he pulled out scattered over the table, he quickly grabs his bag and runs out. The girl can see the boy come out of the classroom and run out of the building. She smiles.

He says that he has to do work in that classroom as well and they say its alright for him to work in there too.
The boy keeps trying to spark up conversations with the girl while she works but her friend keeps wanting to answer. He takes no interest in the other girl and begins to get wound up with her. Eventually, the two girls go to the toilet leaving the boy on his own in the classroom. He can see the girls bag in sight, and quickly rushes over to put a wonderful colourful card he has made for her in the bag. As he opens the bag, he pauses. He is intrigued by the contents and begins to pull out many wierd and wonderful things such as a a sand timer, russian dolls and an old comic. He thinks intently. 'She's so weird' he says to himself. He smiles and almost laughs with his eyes wide open, trance like. Coming back down to earth, the boy quickly puts the contents back into the bag and slips his colourful card in there too. The two girls are in the toilet, the girl the boy likes is a cubicle with her friend outside looking in the mirror styling her hair. She says that she really likes him but she doesn't know what to do. The girl in the cubicle quickly replies saying that she doesn't see what she sees in him and that he's a freak.
The two girls come back in and begin to work again, however this time the boy is silent and is working with a slight smile on his face. After a while, the girls start packing up to leave. The boy watches them. He is horrified when, the girl he likes picks up a very similar, but different bag to the one he looked through. Her friend picks up the other bag. He is confused. He slowly packs up his stuff and exits the school with them. The girl he likes says she is getting a lift home, her friend says she needs to walk to the bus stop. They depart, the boy is left standing outside of the school on his own. He watches the girl get into her mums car and drive off. He looks up the road at the friend walking to the bus stop. He pauses and squints. He then suddenly begins to jog up to her. He asks her if she wants to walk with him to the bus stop. She smiles and says yes.
